Children's Church

Children's ChurchChildren are very welcome at all our events.

During the 9.30 am service we invite children to join our sessions in the vestry, where we encourage them to think about what it means to be a Christian, the Bible readings and the Church year, and to prepare for the First Light Service on the first Sunday of each month when they do a presentation in place of the sermon.

We are pleased to recruit children to the choir. Click to choir recruitment.

Children are invited to take communion if they have done so in their previous church, or following a 6 week preparation programme.

We offer the opportunity for baptism and confirmation preparation and there is a post-confirmation group.

Every year we put on a number of special events. These include a life-size nativity scene in the Lady Chapel, for which the figures were produced by local schools. We hold a Christingle service on Christmas Eve and at Easter we have an Easter Garden in the church.

We also involve local children in Special Music Projects, such as the outreach event Peter and the Wolf and the Mystery Play production 2009.

We are pleased to guide parties of school children round our historic and beautiful church building. If you intend to visit please do contact us. Click to schools visit information.

We are committed to the protection of all the children we meet, and the P.C.C. has adopted the diocesan child protection policy. The appointed Child Protection Officer is Mrs Katherine Bromley. Click to view Child Protection Policy.

Our work with young people has three strands:

Church-based groups - by way of some Sunday morning groups.

Links with other groups in the community - like the uniformed organisations, which have a number of church people as leaders.

Our relationship with the schools - There are five CE Primary Schools serving the parishes of the Team:

  • Bishop Hooper VA (Ashfords and Caynham)
  • Bitterley VA
  • Corvedale VA (Culmington and Stanton Lacy)
  • Onny VA (Bromfield and Onibury)
  • St Laurence's VC (Ludlow)

In Ludlow there are also Community Infant and Junior Schools, with which we have good links. Ludlow VC Secondary School serves the whole catchment area, and is an institution of prime importance for all our communities. We also have a good working relationship with Ludlow College (Sixth Form/FE).

We look not just to maintain but to develop these relationships. They provide us with great opportunity.
